Jupiter in the Signs
Jupiter represents our inner faith in life and in ourselves. It is an optimistic energy and indicates how and where we want to broaden our horizons and to be expansive in some way. The major drawback with this energy is that this overly optimistic approach may encourage us to be too expansive; and thus, overreach ourselves in some way. This overextension can lay the groundwork for trouble. However, possibly because of a positive attitude and its accompanying expectations, this planet usually sees us through even when this reprieve may come at the final hour. This planet, natural ruler of Sagittarius and the ninth house, may also indicate our attitude toward higher education, religion, ethics, the law, philosophy and is also associated with publishing and other ninth house issues. In this manner, it takes on a very personal flavor, for it may indicate a personal philosophy and approach to life as well as a person's moral character. The sign placement will color the native's approach to all of the issues listed above. On a secondary level, it is the traditional ruler of Pisces (now ruled by Neptune) and the twelfth house. This could be an indication that Pisces/twelfth house issues may figure into the equation where Jupiter is concerned as well. ARIES JUPITER These people tend to exhibit a good deal of inner faith in themselves. It is almost as if they know that through their own actions life will afford them their greatest opportunities. This is as it should be, for these natives will tend to be rather restless and feel a need for personally directed action. This, accordingly, may foster executive, leadership or entrepreneurial ability. There is also the possibility that the ego may be inflated beyond all proportions for some of these people! There may be a tendency to impulsive or reckless actions. These people may be overly generous or prone to impulsive spending, so they are well advised to keep some cash reserves as Jupiter's influence may encourage financial recklessness. Similarly, they should have contingency plans, should they meet with resistance or ill fortune in their endeavors. These people may be overly-confident in their ability to succeed; and, when they meet with less success than anticipated, may be at a loss as to what actions to take in a given situation that may be appropriate to dealing with the problems at hand. A typical Aries' drawback is a lack of staying power, so they should be careful in their planning and not underestimate the amount of effort and time involved to bring their endeavors to a successful conclusion. TAURUS JUPITER Taurus will lend a degree of practicality to this planet's expansiveness. Education (Jupiter/ninth house) and material gains (Taurus/second house) are likely to be uppermost in the mind, particularly how education may help them to achieve their material ends. These people tend to have good business sense and this position is generally beneficial (Jupiter) to financial (Taurus/Venus) security. These people may become overly materialistic, due to the influence of Jupiter/Venus, with this placement. On the other hand, particularly if this position is seriously afflicted, this could indicate laziness or self-indulgence that could lead to a life of wastefulness. It could, for some, indicate an attitude of "something-for-nothing" without any real practical contribution on the part of the native. This could also indicate an over-fondness for sensuality. This position can indicate a persistent effort toward one's financial goals and some of these people are quite generous with material gains. However, if afflicted, this could indicate overextending (Jupiter) oneself financially (Venus). GEMINI JUPITER This may be an indication that Jupiter's benefits might come through the field of writing or any form of communication or teaching, for that matter. These people are curious and may have interests that span a wide range of knowledge. One drawback here may be that the mutability of Gemini may make for scattering the energy. And though much is learned about many different topics of study, the learning may lack any real depth of understanding. They may benefit through formalized education, as this may teach them the self-discipline necessary for focusing their mental energy. These natives may exhibit an almost compulsive need to communicate, and for some this could manifest as talkativeness to the point of annoying others. There is usually a desire to broaden their mental horizons. They may be prone to nervousness, worrying and an inability to shut-off their minds. They often have numerous friends and acquaintances. CANCER JUPITER Cancer is a sign noted for emotional sensitivity and the maternal/nurturing instincts. With Jupiter posited here, it is common that opportunities and benefits will enter the native's life through free expression of these qualities. This is often an indication of a very supportive background in childhood and the likelihood that kindness and sensitivity were learned through interaction with the parents. Anything ruled by Cancer may be beneficial to these natives. These interests could include creativity, real estate, cooking, food or anything connected to the domestic sphere. This could perhaps indicate the home being used as a base for business. Family values are of the utmost importance to these people and often their personal philosophy of life will revolve around family issues. They are usually quite protective and sensitive to the needs of friends and loved ones. The drawback with this placement might be a tendency to cling to those who are close to them for emotional security. Still, this is a very favorable placement for Jupiter as this is the sign of exaltation for this planet. LEO JUPITER This could be an indication of benefits and opportunities arising through fifth house issues, which is the natural placement for Leo. These could include artistic/creative self-expression, sports, children, financial speculation including gambling, and even possibly romantic encounters or the image of romance in some way. This could also be an indication of benefits accrued through the entertainment industry. Lest we forget, Leo has the reputation of a flair for dramatics, so drama or acting or the film industry could enter into the picture as well. These people are generally warm, generous, optimistic and confident. This is considered beneficial for one's health, as Leo is ruled by the Sun, which symbolizes vitality. Often these people like to do things in a big way if it is within their economic means to do so. One drawback, however, could be a tendency toward egotism or arrogance that the native should be aware of; as this could easily tarnish the benevolent image they wish to project. This is likely to make for great pride and these people expect more than their fair share of attention and admiration. VIRGO JUPITER There may be a conflict of ideals with this placement, as Jupiter is desirous of expansiveness while Virgo prefers meticulous attention to detail, which might hinder this in a given situation. These people are capable of being dedicated hard workers and do have a desire to be of practical service to others. Therefore, they are capable of overseeing the details of large projects. However, the larger the project, the greater the number of details encountered. If these people do not wish to risk physical and nervous exhaustion they will either have to scale back the amount of responsibility undertaken or learn how to delegate responsibility. The good side of this placement is that these people are willing to work hard for what they want rather than wait for luck to drop it into their laps. This could indicate opportunities through Virgo pursuits such as medicine, hygiene, diet and practical services rendered to others. This is usually an indication of favorable working conditions and relationships with co-workers and employers. There still may be evident, however, the critical nature Virgo is so often noted for; and, with Jupiter here, there is the possibility of this being blown out of all proportion. LIBRA JUPITER This position often confers popularity as it combines Libra's refinement and social graces with Jupiter's benevolence. These people tend to exhibit a strong moral conscience and a desire for fairness in their dealings, particularly with partners. All issues falling under the influence of Libra and the seventh house, which Libra naturally rules, may prove beneficial to the native and offer opportunity. Some of these issues could include benefits through marriage and partnerships, diplomacy and arbitration, public relations work, the lower courts, and possibly psychology; especially marriage counselors. This could also indicate benefits through artistic expression, if the native is so inclined, or perhaps as dealers in art or agents for artists. There may be some problems with this placement, and they will likely fall under the influence of typical Libra weaknesses. The problems could be a result of a desire for harmonious relationships being so strong in the native they subvert their own identity to ensure harmony and approval. Another source of problems could be compounded through Jupiter's desire for expansiveness thwarted by Libra's indecisiveness, leaving the native uncertain of which course of action to pursue. SCORPIO JUPITER This may be an indication that the native possesses the Scorpio traits of determination and a strong willpower in abundance. These characteristics might prove quite beneficial throughout the native's life. Other characteristics of Scorpio and the eighth house may prove beneficial as well. For instance, Scorpio is associated with secretiveness; but, if used suitably, may indicate the native is very discrete in their dealings with others and therefore capable of guarding another's confidence in them. This may be beneficial as well when dealing with shared assets or the resources of others, which are eighth house issues. In this regard, the native may be trusted with large sums of other people's money for management and investment and must maintain their client's confidence. This could likewise be beneficial for dealing with the affairs of the dead and may, incidentally, indicate benefits through inheritance or possibly through pooling resources with a partner. Settlements that are favorable to the native in the event of a divorce are also possible. There might also be an indication that at some point in the native's life they may undergo some sort of transformation that will benefit them greatly. Transforming the desires, compulsions or turbulent emotions that Scorpio is noted for may also be aided with this placement. Many of these people are very good judges of character and may exhibit an ability to see through people and situations quite clearly. This could magnify the intensity Scorpio is noted for and, if used improperly, could foster opposition in others. Usually, their philosophical or religious beliefs are fixed. SAGITTARIUS JUPITER This is the sign that Jupiter rules. Therefore, this planet's characteristics normally operate with a greater degree of ease with this placement, providing this position is not too terribly afflicted. Often these people appear to be unusually lucky, but more than likely their good fortune is due to an optimistic and positive attitude, which delivers to them what they expect. However, this could indicate some problems as well. Sagittarius is a sign associated with freedom and independence, which may indicate that this desire may know no bounds with Jupiter posited here. These people may refuse to deal with anything that hinders their desire for expansion in any way. This may be exacerbated by the mutable quality of Sagittarius, which could further hinder accomplishment by scattering the native's energy over too wide a sphere of interest, compounding the likelihood that many projects will be abandoned before brought to a successful conclusion. Opportunities and benefits could come through Sagittarian principles and ninth house affairs with this placement. This could include higher education, the law (higher courts), religion, ethics, philosophy and writing as the ninth house is associated with publishing. Foreign cultures and foreigners could be of benefit and there is frequently a fondness of travel. Usually the natives have strong moral convictions but should be warned against fanaticism. As with any placement, much will depend upon aspects and the native's efforts to use the benevolence of Jupiter for accomplishment rather than to escape responsibility. CAPRICORN JUPITER This is a position of somewhat conflicting values that need to be brought into a harmonious, symbiotic relationship if the native is to accrue the greatest benefit from this placement. Jupiter rules inner faith and a desire for expansion, while Capricorn and its ruler, Saturn, symbolize constriction, reserve, caution and the status quo. This need not work out to the native's detriment, but the native may have to work at getting the benefits it bestows upon others through much less effort. These people are conservative in viewpoint and are capable of working quite hard to acquire the material gains and status they seek in life. It is almost as if the native does not know how to accept the benevolence of this planet freely, but feels it must be earned somehow. This, of course, has a constricting effect upon the native's attitude. These people are, however, very reliable and competent individuals that have managerial ability and usually possess high moral values. The main problem for many of these people is that they become so much a slave to their ambitions that their personal lives suffer. If this should be the case, despite material and professional success, they often feel lonely and emotionally frustrated. They often achieve high positions in life, but they need to trust in Jupiter's benevolence a bit more if they truly wish to enjoy their hard earned gains. This placement could be beneficial to executives and politicians. AQUARIUS JUPITER This is usually an indication of a very tolerant and humanitarian nature. Often these people benefit from Aquarian principles and through eleventh house issues. These could include friendships, membership in groups and organizations, interest in improving conditions for all humanity, science, invention, advanced technology, computers, electronics, interest in the occult and astrology. These people are likely to exhibit Aquarian characteristics such as love of freedom and independence. They are tolerant of other's views, but expect the same consideration in return. They may be a bit non-conformist, rebellious, radical or eccentric. Any tendency toward extremism should be weighed carefully and resorted to only if absolutely necessary. They may exhibit a tendency to be revolutionary in any of the above mentioned fields and may exhibit a great deal of benevolence where humanitarian issues are concerned. Even so, there is a likelihood that this planet's benevolence will be tinged by the detachment and impersonal qualities associated with Aquarius and the likelihood of a rather cool façade or persona. These people often exhibit leadership ability and prefer to act with a group rather than alone. PISCES JUPITER Here we have a combination of Jupiter's benevolence with Pisces' compassion and sympathy. This sign was traditionally ruled by Jupiter, but is now ruled by Neptune and co-ruled by this planet, so this could aid this planet's expression. This expression may very well take on the form of service to others. These people should take care that this benevolence is bestowed upon those that are deserving because Pisces' vulnerability may make them targets for those wishing to take advantage of the native's kind nature. They may be very idealistic people, but must learn to ground their idealism in the world of reality if they wish to do anything constructive with it. They may be prone to deception by false religious leaders or guru types that may take advantage of the native's need for a deep inner principle upon which to base their lives. These are people that can be extraordinarily compassionate with those less fortunate and can be of great benefit to them through humanitarian service or through work in institutions behind the scenes. Periods of withdrawal and solitude are usually quite beneficial to these people, particularly if they are overworked or feeling stress. This could also be a possible indication of benefits through artistic/creative self-expression, as Pisces is a very creative sign.
