Sun in the Signs

The predominant factor in interpreting a chart is the Sun Sign. This gives vital clues as to how a person goes about using the life-giving energy of the Greater Luminary. This will give indications about creativity since it naturally rules the fifth house of artistic/creative self-expression and may also give clues to the person’s health as it also rules vitality. The Sun is also closely connected to expression of the will. The sign characteristics may not be immediately apparent upon first meeting the native. First impressions are usually attributed to the Ascendant; but once people get to know us better, the Sun Sign qualities will begin to make themselves more apparent.

The degree to which the native experiences ease or difficulty at expressing Sun Sign characteristics may be enhanced or stifled according to how the Sun is aspected in the chart. Some may have difficulty in expressing Sun Sign qualities early in life. For many, this will be the case. We should keep in mind that the Sun is referred to as the ego; that is to say, it is what we are striving to become and indicates how we would like to see ourselves. Often Rising Sign characteristics are more apparent, as the Ascendant is indicative of the strategy or path we take, ideally, in order to evolve into and become our Sun. In childhood, we may confuse others even more as childhood is when we are more likely to show our Moon Sign qualities.

The element the Sun is posited in (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water) will give further indications about how the native expresses the energy of the Sun as well as what the individual finds necessary in order to recharge their batteries, so to speak. The elements are referred to as the Triplicities as there are three signs in each element. Listed below are examples of how the qualities of the elements may be expressed.

FIRE – The Sun in Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius - Fire is a positive masculine element usually given to action. In some instances, these people may be aggressive and this may denote creativity, or at least creative action. These people are often inspired individuals with goals in life in mind. Pursuing these aspirations for the future and physical and perhaps, for some, mental activity recharges them. This imparts a feeling if not of conquering, at least in coping with life. These people usually like to lead and this may bestow leadership qualities. Most of these individuals like a degree of autonomy and dislike being subordinates.

EARTH – The Sun in Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn – Earth is a feminine negative element usually given to a down- to- earth practicality. Usually, these people are concerned with material/financial pursuits in life and the security this affords them. These people pursue their goals through work and productivity in the physical sphere. These aspirations and their pursuit revitalize them. They are concerned with concrete practical results.

AIR – The Sun in Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius – Air is a masculine, positive element. Most natives deal with the intellectual capacity, communication and interactions on a social level. Mental capabilities and a mental approach to life are usually brought to the fore. They are interested in intellectual concepts and social ideals and pursuits along these lines will stimulate their energy.

WATER – The Sun in Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces – Water is a feminine, negative element. This is an indication of an emotional, feeling approach to life. This includes not only sensitivity on an emotional level but on an intuitive one as well. This element is associated with the unconscious and the ability to pick up on things in the environment. These people like to interact on a deep emotional level with others. For some, sensitivity may be so great that interacting with others may leave them feeling vulnerable.

Further indications about how the Sun and other planets express their energy is through mode of expression. These are referred to as Modalities or Quadruplicities as there are four signs making up each group mode of expression. How these may manifest is listed below.

CARDINAL – The Sun in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn – These individuals are usually noted for decisive action. They have initiative and usually have a good grasp on a given situation they must deal with. This aids them in formulating plans to deal with the situation at hand. These people may possess managerial/leadership skills and may initiate new enterprises.

FIXED – The Sun in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius – Just as the term "fixed" implies, these people are persistent and determined to succeed. These qualities, along with the capacity for perseverance, usually assure eventual success in their endeavors. They are generally reliable people, but some may be too rigid or unusually stubborn.

MUTABLE – The Sun in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces – This quality is noted for its high adaptability. These individuals may be highly resourceful at dealing with changing circumstances or so inconstant they accomplish little through lack of perseverance. They are often very flexible and can be quite astute at finding solutions to problems due to their adaptability. This can make for a nervous and restless disposition, however.

Of course, all factors in a chart must be given due consideration, but the Sun Sign will give us good indications of how the native expresses their energy, ego, will and also has a bearing on their vitality. Conditions surrounding the Sun, such as house placement and aspects, will indicate the degree of ease or difficulty the native experiences where expression of the Sun is concerned. If the native has a seriously afflicted Sun, this is by no means a pronouncement of failure in life or that the native will never succeed. It is merely an indication that the native has lessons to learn and adjustments to make on their journey through life in order to let the qualities of their Sun Sign shine through in its most appropriate, productive, healthy and happy manner. So the Sun shows how we not only express our ego but, ultimately, what we are striving to become not only in the eyes of others but, more appropriately, for ourselves. Then we truly have something to share with others.

Please, take note that the dates for the beginning/ending of the Sun Signs change from year to year. The dates below are approximate. SUN IN ARIES
MARCH 21 - APRIL 19
RAM
RULERS – MARS, PLUTO
FIRE – CARDINAL
MASCULINE – POSITIVE
KEYWORDS – INITIATIVE, ACTION
KEYPHRASE – 'I AM'

The Sun in Aries tends to be brash, forceful people that may exhibit characteristics of bravery and courageousness. They are often referred to as pioneers or warriors. Usually highly competitive, they wish to be first in any and all of their endeavors. They may exhibit a bit of arrogance, which does little to endear them to some people. They may antagonize others with a too forceful or too self-centered approach.

These people tend to be impatient and find inactivity irksome. Although quite enthusiastic, this lack of patience can be a source of problems for Aries. Impatience with details can cause plans to go awry due to a lack of adequate forethought, so these people are often known for leaving a string of incomplete projects in their wake. This is compounded by the fact that as soon as Aries loses interest in anything, it is quickly forgotten as they train their sights on their next objective. Keeping with the pioneering spirit of Aries, these individuals are known for blazing new trails in whatever field interests them. Unfortunately, constancy is usually not one of their strong points and after breaking new ground they wish to be off to new conquests at hand and tend to leave the details for others to follow up on.

These people prefer to have control over their own self-directed destiny and may not get along well with superiors. This may be exacerbated by Aries' love of battle; and, for some, this may be for no better reason than to be in the thick of the fray. They usually feel a need to prove themselves to themselves for some reason. For some, and especially the males, this could entail taking foolhardy and sometimes dangerous risks. They seem to respect people that are not afraid to stand up for themselves and particularly those that are not afraid to stand up to them. They may exhibit leadership skills and be desirous of a position of power. However, if the native lacks wisdom to use their power they may appear foolish or autocratic. They are normally very confident, may possess a childlike charm, and are warm friends, protective and spontaneous, and usually quite ardent in their pursuit of love.

The Sun is considered exalted in Aries.

SUN IN TAURUS
APRIL 20 - MAY 20
BULL
RULER – VENUS
EARTH – FIXED
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – POSSESSIONS, DETERMINATION
KEYPHRASE – 'I HAVE'

The Sun in Taurus is associated with the sensual nature of humanity. This sign, naturally ruling the second house, indicates these people are fond of the finer things in life and money, but usually only for the beautiful things it can buy; and of course, sensuality. If the Sun should be afflicted in Taurus or the ruler, Venus, there may be indications toward a too self-indulgent type of lifestyle. These people are usually warm-hearted individuals and protective of those they care about, particularly their families. Difficult to provoke, their temper may be slow in surfacing. However, when angered, they may be formidable in their expression and relentless with those who have angered them.

Some of the more negative characteristics these people may exhibit are possessiveness and jealousy. They may treat the affections of loved ones as a possession and fear of losing these affections may threaten the security of the Taurus native. Some may deal with this by cutting off the person whose affections are in question. Thus, it is not wise to see if you can rouse the ire of a Taurus by flirting at a party, for instance. You may succeed in doing so, only to find that you have damaged the relationship irreparably. Also, these people are known for stubbornness and fixity of purpose, so if you manage to get on the wrong side of a Taurus it may take a long time to smooth things over – if ever!

At times, Taurus is equated with inertia, these people like their routines and resent anyone that tries to change them; a love of self-indulgence may be the culprit. However, once these people get moving, the same stubbornness and fixity of purpose mentioned above can give them the driving force they need to see their objectives through to successful conclusion, even if this should take years to accomplish. These people are suited and quite capable of working hard over long periods of time to gain the rewards they want for their efforts. These will usually include a fair share of material prosperity and security. Along with good taste for home dιcor, this could indicate artistic talent, particularly with music, sometimes denoting a good voice or at least an appreciation of beauty.

SUN IN GEMINI
MAY 21 - JUNE 20
TWINS
RULER – MERCURY
AIR – MUTABLE
POSITIVE – MASCULINE
KEYWORDS – MENTALITY, VERSATILITY, DEXTERITY
KEYPHRASE – 'I THINK'

The Sun in Gemini is a sign noted for duality. This is exemplified by the symbol that represents this sign – the twins. This is further proven by the versatility that all mutable signs are noted for. Gemini is associated with the intellect and the capacity for communication as well as a tendency toward the nonconformist. These people may be rebellious in nature and have little regard for rules and regulations. This may be most readily discernible in their mental approach to life. These individuals are usually highly curious about a wide range of subjects. This is aided by a thirst for knowledge and often a well-developed capacity for learning. They may also be inventive and imaginative. This, coupled with communications skills, may impart talent in the fields of writing and lecturing. Natives usually do best if given a good education in early life to help them develop their mental gifts.

The duality associated with Gemini may stem from the fact that they may be subject to mood swings and this, in turn, may color their reactions to a given situation of the moment. Mercury is associated with the nervous system and a restless nature, so some of these people may be high-strung and subject to bouts of nervousness or inner tension. This may be exacerbated if the native feels they lack control over their own lives or if boredom sets in. These people find routine abhorrent and may have more then one major interest in life. Though gifted with their hands and possibly ambidextrous, usually work that allows them to use their mental gifts is more suitable and rewarding for these people.

Because of a gregarious nature and ease in communication, they may be quite popular and usually have numerous acquaintances. Their biggest social drawback may be their unwillingness to conform. These people may especially espouse freedom of speech and thought. As children they may be so charming that others fail to see their faults, but it is imperative that they be given proper guidance, particularly along educational lines or the mental energy may be wasted later in life on much less productive pursuits. These people need to learn a degree of discipline and stick-to-itiveness in life if they want to make the most of their opportunities. Often they are too easily distracted, but still they have the versatility of the mutable signs to guide them around obstacles.

SUN IN CANCER
JUNE 21 - JULY 21
CRAB
RULER – MOON
WATER - CARDINAL
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – DOMESTICITY, SENSITIVITY, TENACITY
KEYPHRASE – 'I FEEL'

The Sun in Cancer, being a water sign, is noted for sensitivity and emotional depth. This is the sign of motherhood and the nurturing instincts will likely be quite prominent. The symbol for Cancer is the crab and this is associated with the tenacity of the sign - the desire to hang onto or cling to whatever is in their grasp. It should be noted here, however, that this clinging quality may be a source of problems for the native. Cancerians, though nurturing, may be smothering in their expression of love and may tend to cling to loved ones. This could be due to the deep sense of insecurity some of these natives may feel or because of the protective nature equally strong in these individuals. Whatever the reason, the native should keep in mind that clinging to someone often has the opposite effect of the one desired. That is to say, those that feel trapped often exhibit a desire to flee.

These people, as already mentioned, may be deeply sensitive. For these people, this means that any harsh, cutting words directed toward them are terribly painful. This may be forgiven, but will not be forgotten, and once a Cancerian is hurt they will rarely give someone the opportunity to hurt them again. Usually, the culprit is shut out permanently. This is in accordance with the shell of the crab that protects the inner sensitivity of the native. This sensitivity may be exacerbated by mood swings due to the influence of the Moon, which rules this sign. They may at times be warm and kind individuals, and often are, but they are subject to bouts of being snappish and, in some cases, childish in their response to others.

This sign is associated with domesticity, so having and caring for a family may be of prime importance to these people. This gives them the opportunity to put their nurturing and protective instincts to productive use. Natives may be very imaginative and creative; and, as with all water signs, because of their sensitivity, may have an almost psychic ability to pick up on the feelings around them. The most serious drawback of this sign may be an overly dependent nature and a desire to be cared for and protected by others. They should determine to be more autonomous.

SUN IN LEO
JULY 21 - AUGUST 20
LION
RULER – SUN
FIXED – FIRE
POSITIVE – MASCULINE
KEYWORDS – VITALITY, AUTHORITY, POWER, DRAMA
KEYPHRASE – 'I WILL'

The Sun in Leo is the sign associated with royalty and nobility. These people usually possess a fair amount of dignity, self-esteem and no little amount of pride. They are generally warm and generous individuals with a flair for the dramatic. They frequently exhibit a desire to be the center of attention or to be in the spotlight in some manner. Responsible individuals, they tend to do well in positions of authority and are normally desirous of such a position as well. In fact, if they are undermined in their attempts to secure an autonomous position or one of power, we are likely to see traits exhibited such as laziness and inconsistency.

They are usually attractive to the opposite sex and just as strongly attracted themselves. Natives tend to have a strong love nature, but this can lead to problems if they are indiscriminate in bestowing their affections. They are usually honorable and forthright people; they possess a high degree of integrity. Often overly confident, they may cause problems for themselves if they erroneously assume others possess similar ethical qualities. This can lead Leo to disappointment when they find that others’ intentions are not so strictly honorable. Women with this Sun Sign are often noted for being the dominant partner in marriage. Actually, love is very important to them also because they have a need for the affection of someone special; and, of course, this allows them to be the center of attention of the loved one. This goes hand-in-hand with Leo's pride and sometimes their vitality as well.

Leos tend to be optimistic, warm, generous, cheerful people. If their temper is roused, they rarely waste time and energy holding grudges as they tend to feel there are much more productive uses for their time and energy. They often possess a fondness for children as the ruling Sun naturally rules the fifth house of children but, oddly enough, rarely have large families. They do tend to feel that children should respect and obey their elders, however. The Sun ruling the fifth house of creativity may denote artistic talent if it was not squelched in childhood. If so, the native's pride may prevent them from trying their hand in this area again.

SUN IN VIRGO
AUGUST 21 - SEPTEMBER 20
VIRGIN
RULER – MERCURY
MUTABLE – EARTH
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – DISCRIMINATION, METHODICAL, SERVICE
KEYPHRASE – 'I ANALYZE'

Virgo is the sign that naturally rules the sixth house of health and work and service to others. As such, many of these people are dedicated to the work they do and service to others. They tend to be more concerned with doing their jobs well than in acquiring a position of power. Thus, they are often unnoticed by the public for their efforts, but often play a major supporting role behind the scenes. It is their dedication to their endeavors that brings projects to a successful conclusion despite the fact that public recognition may be lacking.

These people tend to have analytical minds that are suited to research or in any field where meticulous attention to detail is a necessity. Their biggest problem in this regard is that they may become so inundated with unnecessary trivia that they may lag behind their peers. This, however, is only Virgo's attention to detail, but still this is one of the reasons that Virgo is often noted for not being able to see the forest for the trees. They must learn to separate key points from the nonessential.

Diet and hygiene is another concern of Virgo. These are some of the people of the zodiac that are most apt to pursue a vegetarian life style. These people are also suited for work in these fields as well as in the field of medicine where they may serve others. Natives may be so fastidious that it is likely that whoever said – "cleanliness is next to godliness", may well have been a Virgo.

Like everyone else, in life and the zodiac, these people may exhibit some rather annoying characteristics. Due to Mercury's rulership of Virgo and the nervous system, they may be prone to excessive worry or fretful. They may be indecisive and insecure as well, using their discrimination to falsely bolster self-esteem by trying to justify in their minds how much better they are than others. This trait can also lead them to exhibit a very critical nature which few people come to appreciate. Preoccupied with their work, it may be the focus of their entire lives and they may talk of little else. These people should learn to relax remembering the phrase – "all work and no play makes for a dull existence".

SUN IN LIBRA
SEPTEMBER 21 - OCTOBER 22
THE SCALES
RULER – VENUS
CARDINAL – AIR
MASCULINE – POSITIVE
KEYWORDS – HARMONY, BALANCE, RELATIONSHIP
KEYPHRASE – 'I BALANCE'

The Sun in Libra is noted for charm and grace. This is the sign of beauty and refinement. Harmony is important to these people, particularly in the sphere of relationships and partnerships and, in some cases, too much so as some of these individuals will subvert their own identity in order to gain the approval of others. These natives should keep in mind that in order for a relationship to be viable, it should consist in not only effort on the part of both parties involved but also on compromise. To continually thwart one's own needs and desires is not only impractical but unhealthy as well.

These natives try to be fair-minded in their relationships with others. This quality is enhanced by Libra's ability to see opposing viewpoints clearly and the viability of all sides to a given issue. Along with their desire for popularity and harmony, this may give them skills along diplomatic lines or where arbitration is needed. This would also denote capabilities in marriage counseling, public relations or perhaps in the area of law as Libra naturally rules the seventh house, which encompasses the lower courts.

However, these same characteristics, when taken too far, may be a source of problems for the Libra native. This is because this sign, able to see the viability of all sides of an issue, is noted for the more negative characteristic of indecision. If all sides of an issue have both positive and negative qualities, how can one be right and one be wrong? Combine this with a propensity to want to please everyone and Libra is left with a dilemma indeed – what to do?

Libra is an air sign and as such most of these natives are likely to pursue intellectual activities. They tend to abhor anything crass, vulgar or distasteful as it tends to offend Libra's aesthetic sensibilities. They usually exhibit a refined taste in art and may have talents along these lines or with music. They may not save much money, as they like to socialize and tend to appreciate the finer things in life. They are usually fair-minded and they believe in justice for all. Rarely do they lose their tempers, but like anyone else that tends to swallow their anger, when they do let loose the explosion may be powerful and you will tend to hear of transgressions you had forgotten.

SUN IN SCORPIO
OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 22
SCORPION – EAGLE – PHOENIX
RULERS – PLUTO, MARS
FIXED – WATER
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – REGENERATION, TRANSFORMATION, SECRECY
KEYPHRASE – 'I DESIRE'

The Sun in Scorpio is noted for its intensity (Pluto) and passion (Mars). Pluto lends endurance to the Scorpio native so that they are capable of putting their full efforts, heart and soul, into attaining their ends. These people should be warned about overdoing it, however, as they may push themselves so hard they may succumb to exhaustion.

Because of the influence of Pluto, these people usually exhibit power, a strong will and fixity of purpose. They like to get to the bottom of things and can have an uncanny ability to spot weakness in others. These people find weakness distasteful in themselves and in others, probably because it reminds them of their own human frailty, which they loathe admitting. Therefore, these people are ordinarily rather secretive about their own motives while readily able to ascertain the motives of others. They are usually not easily fooled. The darker side of Scorpio may be exhibited in possessiveness, jealousy, cruelty, ruthlessness, vindictiveness and, possibly, violence.

This is a powerful sign, but it should be noted that much is dependent upon how the native uses this power. Some say there is no more powerful sign for good or evil. Much depends on the character of the native in this regard. For instance, this sign is associated with vindictiveness and vengefulness. Some may pride themselves on their ability to carry a grudge. For most individuals, this is a complete waste of the energy available to the native, as holding onto resentment has far more propensity for harming the native than anyone else. "Forget it and get on with your life", might be some good advice.

The desire nature is normally quite strong when Scorpio is prominent in the chart. However, all may not be as it seems in sexual terms. More often than we care to admit sex, for most of us, is more of an expression of the ego than for the more warm and tender side of human emotions. As long as both parties are aware of this, there is no harm done. Scorpios, however, would do well to examine the motives behind their sex drives. This could help immeasurably in allowing them contact with the unconscious and to discern exactly what it is that is driving them.

SUN IN SAGITTARIUS
NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 21
CENTAUR ARCHER
RULER – JUPITER
MUTABLE – FIRE
MASCULINE – POSITIVE
KEYWORDS – EXPLORATION, FREEDOM
KEYPHRASE – 'I SEE'

The Sun in Sagittarius is associated with honesty and the truth - at least as they see it. These people are rarely narrow-minded, but may be a bit too blunt as tact is not one of their strong points. The archer aims his arrows into the heavens and; much in the same manner, Sagittarius likes to broaden horizons, at least on an intellectual level and possibly on a physical level as well, for this sign is the natural sign of the ninth house of higher education and long-distance travel.

Like any fire sign, they may be enthusiastic, overly optimistic and prone to impulsiveness. For more success in their endeavors they would be wise to give greater attention to details if they wish to avoid tripping themselves up. The mutability of this sign may bestow a wide variety of interests but, as with all mutable signs, there may be a need for change that can thwart the native when it comes to completing projects. However, this does make for individuals that may be highly adaptable and more readily able to find solutions to problems that may confront them.

These people are normally gregarious and sometimes too much so to suit some people. Friendly and outgoing though they may be some, like all fire signs, may be impatient and in possession of a quick temper. Their sense of humor may come to their rescue in bad times. Lovers of freedom, they do not like having their independence curtailed. Women with this Sun Sign are rarely happy being relegated to the domestic sphere. They prefer to be active and are quite versatile, finding routine boring. This sign, ruling the ninth house, could make many of these people motivated in life by a desire to learn from all their life experiences. Sagittarians are normally advised to view life as an ongoing journey which they can learn from rather than merely an endeavor to reach a final destination.

Due to the ninth house influence associated with this sign, many of these natives may possess a deeply philosophical, spiritual or religious perspective on life in a very personal manner. Usually honest and generous, they may possess a deep belief in justice and fairness for society as a whole. Some may exhibit a talent for writing (ninth – publishing) and in this manner share their beliefs or what they have learned with others.

SUN IN CAPRICORN
DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19
MOUNTAIN GOAT – SEA GOAT
RULER – SATURN
CARDINAL – EARTH
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – AMBITION, CONSERVATIVE
KEYPHRASE – 'I USE'

The Sun in Capricorn is considered the most conservative of the Sun Signs and natives are noted for being old when they are young and young when they are old. That is to say, it usually takes Capricorn a good deal of time to loosen up, but this is in keeping with the ruling planet, Saturn, which is less oppressive and more beneficial to us as we mature.

These people are rarely regarded as frivolous, in fact the opposite may be true, particularly early in life and they may be seen as staid, austere and rigid. The Capricorn mindset is a serious one. These people often know early on in life what they want and begin formulating plans as to how to go about achieving their goals. Usually very responsible, they may be good in managerial or leadership roles. Often, there is a deep desire in these natives to accomplish something of seeming importance - at least to them.

They seem to have a need to be seen as people of stature by their peers and society. This may be Capricorn's way of validating their worth as many of these individuals are less than self-confident in their early years. However, this may also be attributed to the materialistic nature of the native as most of them are determined to have their share of the material goods in life as well as a measure of financial security to boot. Most have a fear of lacking financial security in old age. This is prudent in this case, for although Capricorns may suffer frail health in youth, they usually are noted for being among those that live to a ripe old age.

There is a dignity about these people which many find admirable, but this same quality may discourage others from approaching them. They may hide behind a faηade of granite, but often this is not because they are really all that cold, it merely reflects Capricorn's cautious approach to new situations and people. One drawback these people may suffer from is a sort of rigidity or inhibition that they allow to hold them back. They usually learn to be less serious with age. Capricorn is well suited for achievement for, as the mountain goat, they may move slowly to be sure of their ground, but eventually they reach the top.

SUN IN AQUARIUS
JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18
WATER BEARER
RULERS – URANUS, SATURN
FIXED – AIR
MASCULINE – POSITIVE
KEYWORDS – INDEPENDENCE, ORIGINALITY, HUMANITARIAN
KEYPHRASES – 'I KNOW'

The Sun in Aquarius is the sign of the zodiac referred to as the humanitarian. These people are usually very open-minded and believe in intellectual and personal freedom for all. Often their interests run along the lines of social reforms for the betterment of humanity. They exhibit altruistic motives more often than not. Due to the influence of Uranus, they may be inventive or display a spark of genius. Sometimes their ideas are so far ahead of their time that they may be viewed as impractical, eccentric, unconventional and, sometimes, threatening to the powers that be.

These people value their freedom, but this is more in preserving their individuality than their solitude. Aquarius is the natural sign of the eleventh house of friendships and organizations, so these people are ordinarily social creatures. This is particularly true if the native has a desire to bring about change. Not only is Aquarius associated with the collective, but they seem to know that there is strength in numbers and that the support of others may be needed to bring about the desired changes.

This is an air sign and as such relates to life on an intellectual level. These people are rarely judgmental where people are concerned and will freely associate with individuals from all walks of life. It is not the level of income or the attire of the individual that impress Aquarius, but whether or not they have something in common on the mental plane.

This brings us to the most often voiced complaint about the sign of Aquarius. Though these people may espouse a love for all of humanity, it is usually on an intellectual level and of an impersonal nature. Those intimately involved with these natives may accuse them of being somewhat cold at times. This may be an attempt by the native to retain their individuality and independence. This could also arise, however, because the loved one sees Aquarius treating others the same way; and as a result, may not feel quite so special to the native.

SUN IN PISCES
FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20
THE FISH
RULERS – NEPTUNE, JUPITER
MUTABLE – WATER
FEMININE – NEGATIVE
KEYWORDS – COMPASSION, SENSITIVITY, RENUNCIATION
KEYPHRASE – 'I BELIEVE'

The Sun in Pisces is noted for its compassion, sensitivity and impressionability. Most of these people are generally very gentle souls. Often these individuals exhibit a propensity to feel another person's pain so deeply it feels as though it is their own. Of all the signs of the zodiac, it is most likely Pisces that truly knows how it feels to walk in another's shoes.

Their compassion and sensitivity may make them ideally suited to work in the helping professions where they can put their idealistic qualities to productive use. However, they should be forewarned to be careful where they bestow their compassion. These people may be taken advantage of by less scrupulous individuals. Then we tend to see the negative side of the martyr/savoir complex Pisces is often noted for exhibiting. This may leave the native feeling trod upon as a doormat (martyr) or attempting to save a mate from addiction to substance abuse that has no wish to be saved, much less to put forth any effort in kicking the habit.

Pisces, as other water signs, may be so sensitive to emotional currents around them as to appear psychic. This sign, above all others, should take pains to keep the environment and the associates around them quite positive. To be in a negative atmosphere and to associate with negative or abusive people is quite detrimental to Pisces due to their sensitivity and impressionability.

This sign is also associated with creativity in the arts, music, poetry, photography and cinematography as well as dance. This is often a very therapeutic and beneficial use of Neptune's energy, particularly so if the native is experiencing hard times. The down side of Neptune's influence can make these people so overwhelmed with the harsh realities of life that these natives may be prone to attempt to numb themselves through substance abuse or escapism. As mentioned above, a more productive use of this energy is through creativity.

For those not creatively inclined, they may find that exercising their sensitivity and compassion through helping others gets them outside themselves long enough to keep from being overwhelmed with their own problems. Periods of solitude are beneficial to Pisces and help them to get in touch with themselves again. This should not be taken to extremes, for withdrawal may turn into escapism.
