Sun in Astrology
The Sun is of primary importance in the chart, by sign as well as the house it's posited in. This house will be of particular importance to the native as this is the most important planet in an individual's chart. Of course, although technically not a planet, we merely refer to it as such for the sake of convenience. It is sometimes referred to as the Greater Luminary, while the Moon is considered the Lesser Luminary. This "planet" represents our power potential, vitality, our creative expression, the application of will, our ego-drive and what we are striving to become through following the path represented by our Ascendant. The sign is a powerful indication of the individual's character and personality, which is why Sun Sign readings can be extraordinarily accurate. The qualities of this sign should be consciously cultivated by the native, as these attributes will be not only useful but beneficial to the native throughout the course of their life. The house placement indicates an area of life that we will probably put our best efforts into during our lives. It shows where we will concentrate and focus our energies as well as where we are most likely to profit from doing so. It is the area of life where we live, so to speak. This is where we will most probably find our greatest sense of ego-fulfillment in life. Aspects to the Greater Luminary in any given chart will indicate whether the individual accomplishes this with ease or experiences difficulties in pursuit of their goals. Quite often, obstacles will have to be overcome, whether internal or external. Leo is ruled by this planet and, as with any sign and planetary ruler, there will be a connection with the Sun house and house(s) containing the sign of Leo. To further elaborate, the house placement is where we tend to feel our destiny lies. This is an area of life we usually feel an affinity with and probably how we judge ourselves as to how well we either successfully, or not, deal with this aspect of life. This sphere of experience is where we can gain a greater sense of individuality and purpose or direction in life. This also indicates, for most of us, where we want to shine in some way. The Greater Luminary indicates power and we can use this power to bring change into our lives, where we can have a choice and where and how we can look for alternatives to a current situation that we no longer find rewarding. This is where we should take the initiative rather than be passive. It is not always a promise of ease, but achievement of our objectives here usually means a much greater sense of self-confidence and a more solid sense of our own individuality.
